I never would have guessed that we would spend 2020 in a global pandemic.
As many of us are staying home to protect others, there are so many men and women who are taking care of our sick and elderly. Nurses, doctors and other medical professionals are working long hours wearing PPE’s (Personal Protection Equipment) while treating patients. Because these workers are wearing masks all day, many of them are getting sores and blisters behind their ears from the constant loops.
I am so grateful to be a part of a large community of crafters that wants to make a difference. Many of us are using out laser cutters to create these “comfort clips” for masks. We have worked together, shared files, and have sent out thousands of clips to professionals who need them. After putting out a post on my personal Facebook, I cut and shipped 300 clips in 24 hours..and I’m still going.
why this matters to me
It’s easy to forget the magnitude of why these masks are important. Sometimes we are so separated from the patients that we downplay the importance of PPE’s. But when it directly affects someone you love, it echoes constantly through your mind.
My dad is in an assisted living facility. His mind is sharp, but his body just needs help. Nursing homes were one of the first things restricted in Florida during this pandemic (as it should have been), so I have not seen my dad in almost a month. Thankfully, the staff there is thoughtful and caring. They are trying their best to make the residents feel safe and happy.
I made them this custom bag using Siser Twinkle in red from H&H Sign Supply (tutorial on the design and vinyl coming soon) and dropped it off filled with snacks and clips! I wanted to make it extra special for them, so I used a few clips with the lovely patterned acrylic from Craft Chameleon!
How you can get involved
I truly believe in supporting all of our medical professionals and first responders. There are several ways that we can help:
- Stay home whenever possible.
- If you have a Glowforge, help cut the clips.
- You would not believe how many people need these and who you can help. I am using a free file I found online. Click here for the file. Thank you to Nicole Masterson on Facebook for this file!
- If you would like to use the patterned acrylic I had for the video, find it here from Craft Chameleon.
- Help cut shields with your craft cutter or scissors.
- Check out this tutorial by Terri Johnson!
- Donate to someone making PPE’s.
- I have graciously had many friends and family who have sent money to cover materials. These donations help create these clips. Email me at hello@lisapottsdesigns.com if you would like to help!
Don’t forget that you can save up to $500 on a Glowforge. Click here to find out how!
